In recognition of the visionary leadership of Dr. Muriel Oaks, WSU Dean Emeritus, the Oaks Award recognizes the innovative use of technology to transform teaching and learning.  The award is open to all instructors on any WSU campus.

    • Submission must document a current use of technology that is transformative, and ideally scalable and applicable to a variety of disciplines (not intended for planning or future implementation of a technology innovation). 
    • The technology cannot create a barrier to individuals, so it should be accessible to all, affordable and user-friendly. 
    • The application must focus on teaching and learning, not technology for the sake of technology.
  • Nominee Information

    • • Identify and describe the technology used.
    • • Which course(s) utilized this technology? Include course prefix & number with enrollment size.
  • Technology should have a purpose, sound pedagogical intent, and enhance teaching and/or learning.
    • • What were your goals in implementing this technology?
    • • Describe your pedagogical intent and how it aligned with the implementation of this technology.
    • • How did this technology enhance the way you teach or students learn?
  • Ideally, technology should be cost effective, user-friendly, accessible, sustainable, and scalable.
    • • Briefly describe the implementation and use of the technology.
    • • Was there a cost (either financial or through use of resources) to you or your students?
    • • Is this technology accessible?
    • • Is this technology scalable?
  • Assessment plans are essential to evaluate the effectiveness of a technology, to align implementation with desired outcomes, and to inform changes to reshape your teaching and learning.
    • • What was your assessment plan to determine the effectiveness of the technology?
    • • Based on the assessment findings, did the implementation of the technology aligned with your stated goals? Articulate any plans to adjust/adapt future technology use to improve effectiveness, efficiency, value, and enhance teaching and/or learning.
