Communication: VoiceThread License Expiring December 2024

Global Campus Learning Innovations email dated April 3, 2024

To: All WSU faculty
From: Global Campus Learning Innovations
Subject: VoiceThread License Expiring December 2024

Dear Faculty and Instructors,

After careful assessment and review, we will not be renewing WSU’s VoiceThread license. This decision follows an evaluation of VoiceThread usage and recent changes to our licensing agreements. Over the past few years, the usage of VoiceThread has not justified the increasing cost associated with the tool. The current license will remain active through the Fall 2024 semester and will no longer be supported by Global Campus after it expires.

As part of our commitment to enhancing the learning experience for both students and faculty, we conducted analyses of various tools, considering factors such as cost, usage, and potential duplication of services. The result of the analyses is that we are streamlining the array of tools utilized, aiming to provide more focused support and resources. There are licensed and supported tools such as Panopto and Perusall that offer options for content delivery, collaborative learning, and more.

Summary of the Transition

The VoiceThread license will expire at the end of Fall 2024 semester. If you were planning to use VoiceThread in the Spring 2025 semester and beyond, you will need implement an alternative.

If you are using VoiceThread, you must act to transition to another application.

We understand this transition may impact your teaching and collaboration efforts. To assist you in this process, we have compiled resources describing alternatives to VoiceThread. You should select the most appropriate app based on your specific needs and usage patterns. Additionally, our Learning Innovations team is available for individual consultations to address any questions or concerns you may have regarding this transition.
