Subject: WSU Global Campus: Helping your students who have disability accommodations

Dear Faculty,

You may have students in your summer course who need disability accommodations.

Each term, students needing accommodations will work with a WSU Access Center Advisor to determine what accommodations they need. Students will request accommodations online, and instructors receive notification of the student’s accommodations in a Faculty Notification Letter (FNL) sent to the instructor’s email. Instructors are responsible for providing the accommodations listed. If you have questions about specific accommodations or other information (e.g., Alternative Testing Agreement) on the FNL, please contact the Access Center at access.center@wsu.edu or 509-335-3417, or visit their website for more information at acccesscenter.wsu.edu/faculty/.

Many students who need accommodations will require additional time (e.g., double time) to take their Blackboard or Canvas online exams or quizzes.

Instructors are responsible for setting up extended time accommodations for their online exams directly in Blackboard or Canvas before a student takes an exam.

For students who have time extensions, it is best to extend their time on all their online exams at the same time, preferably at the start of the term. Extending an exam time should be done at least a week before an exam opens.

For support: If you need assistance or would like someone to check that you have correctly set up online exam time extensions for a student, please contact WSU Global Campus Accommodation Support at accommodationsupport.aoi@wsu.edu. We are here to help.

If you do not receive a Faculty Notification Letter for a student who is requesting an accommodation from you, please refer the student to the Access Center. The student will need to contact the Access Center even if the student received accommodations from a previous school or from WSU during a previous term.

Sincerely,
WSU Global Campus Staff
